Every Knipex a five star…,
Knipex does make a “CoBolt” mini bolt cutters model with a spring-loaded handle, and it is the cat’s meow. It’s number 71 11 200 (plastic-coated handles, solid red in color) which has recently been replaced by the 71 12 200 (red and blue dual-component plastic handle covers, and is similar to the model reviewed above). Both have been manufactured over the past couple of years, and are both available at various web sites. You can find the older model (71 11 200) by searching for KNI7111200 here on Amazon.com (but it’s way over-priced as of this writing), but I haven’t been able to find the newer model on Amazon. I do prefer the feel of the dual-component handles to the cutter handles dipped in plastic so, if you’re looking for that one, try Googling or Froogling it. As of this posting, chadstoolboxdotcom (see advertisement with a hyperlink just above this posting as of this date) and tooldiscounterdotcom have the best prices (please forgive the “dot” in lieu of the “.” but I’m not sure if Amazon has a filter allowing the names of other web sites or not).
As for the quality of the pliers, no one, including Wiha, Klein, Snap-On or whomever, makes a pliers as high in quality as Knipex. These mini bolt cutters get after everything, and they are hell on piano wire when we’re using shotcrete when just about every other cutter fails. Knipex’s combination pliers (lineman’s pliers) are great and their Cobra and Alligator water pump pliers (slip joint) are unbelievably nice. You’ll pay a lot for the quality but as long as they don’t walk away, they’re worth every penny and will be performing just as well after ten years as they did the day you bought them. Ever since I discovered them about 10 years ago, they are just about the only pliers I buy. Arguably, the highest quality general hand tool made and Knipex does not make a pair of pliers that deserve anything less than five stars. And all this love for Knipex is coming from a guy who loves his various old Klein pliers and Wiha insulated pliers…

Knipex 7102200 8-Inch Lever Action Mini-Bolt Cutter – Comfort Grip I used to use Knipex tools when I worked on my car in college, thought they went out of business. These are worth the price. You will see the diff when you cut wire or steel rods. I used them to add shelving to a couple of closets. They make a nice clean cut unlike the cheap Chinese manufactured cutters I borrowed from a neighbor, which left jagged metal and did not seem to cut completely so you had to bend the metal to break it apart. Still have my old Knipex tools – 30 years later and they still perform well.

|Knipex Mini-Bolt Cutter Makes the Grade,
The Knipex 8-Inch Lever Action Mini-Bolt Cutter has perfomed beautifully. The first look at the cutter had everyone wondering what this little thing could do. Skepticism abounded. Working with wire all day, I needed somehing that would hold up and so I took a chance. These things cut like a knife through butter. They work fantastic and now all my co-workers are planning on getting themselves a pair as well. The only improvement I could see is a spring to return the cutters to an open position. But the action works smooth and easy and are a joy to work with.
